Instructor Spotlight - Colleen

Get to know Colleen, an instructor at FIT4MOM Downingtown!

Meet Colleen, mom to Charlie and Oliver, wife to Jose.

Colleen has been with FIT4MOM since 2019 and has been instructing since 2021.

I saw FIT4MOM in the park and then again in a flyer at the Downingtown Running Store. I decided to join because I wasn’t connecting with any of my co-workers, and I wanted my oldest son to connect with kids his age. He was a little over 18 months when I joined.

Colleen is a Downingtown local and a talented photographer (keep her in mind when you're looking for family photos!). After high school Colleen moved to New York City for college at Parsons School of Design and lived there for fifteen years. She met her husband while living there and returned to Downingtown for a slower pace when her oldest was eight months old. Colleen’s husband is from Mexico so they are a bilingual home, speaking both Spanish and English.

Q&A

What do you wish you would have known before your first child came to be?

The good parts and the rough parts of being a parent ebb and flow. Ride out the rough patches and you’ll see the light again.

What's your favorite thing about being a mom?

Connecting with my kids and teaching them how to connect with their feelings. Oh and the snuggles!

What's the hardest thing for you about being a mom?

Bedtime!!!

What advice do you have for new moms?

Be kind to yourself and trust your instincts. You know your kid better than anyone.

What’s your best mom hack?

I don’t know if it’s my best, but at the moment it’s keeping a snack bin in the car. Nothing ruins errands like a hangry child.

What's your favorite part of FIT4MOM?

It’s hard to pinpoint just one, so I would have to say just summers in general! The weather, the park play dates, the classes with water, everything just clicks!
